Shana Grice Fined Then Murdered

In 2015–2016 in Brighton, England, 19-year-old Shana Grice repeatedly reported her ex-boyfriend, Michael Lane, to Sussex Police for stalking, harassment, and unwanted attention. Instead of treating her as a victim, officers fined her for “wasting police time” after one report and even accused her of lying about him.

Six months later, on August 25, 2016, Lane broke into her home, cut her throat, and set her bedroom on fire to cover the murder. In 2017 he was convicted of her murder and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 25 years, and a later watchdog report condemned Sussex Police for multiple failures in handling her case.
