Muzzammil Hassan Beheads Aasiya Hassan

In 2009 in Orchard Park, New York, Muzzammil “Mo” Hassan, cofounder of Muslim-oriented TV station Bridges TV, turned himself in at a police station and admitted that his wife, Aasiya, was dead at their network’s offices. Officers found her body inside the building, and investigators determined that he had murdered her by stabbing and decapitation after a history of domestic abuse and as she sought a divorce.

Hassan had launched Bridges TV in 2004 to counter negative stereotypes of Muslims in American media, which made the killing a shocking contradiction of his public image. In 2011 a jury convicted him of second-degree murder, and he received a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
