Leslie Mahaffy Murder

Leslie Mahaffy Murder

On the night of June 14–15, 1991, 14-year-old Leslie Mahaffy missed curfew after attending a wake for a friend in Burlington, Ontario, and found herself locked out of her house, forced to seek help at a nearby plaza. When she returned, she crossed paths with Canadian serial killer Paul Bernardo, who was out looking into backyards for a victim; he lured her to his car, blindfolded her, and drove her to the Port Dalhousie home he shared with Karla Homolka.

Over the next day the pair videotaped themselves sexually assaulting and abusing Leslie before killing her and dismembering her body, which they encased in concrete blocks and dumped in Lake Gibson, where her remains were found on June 29, 1991. Bernardo later received a life sentence for two first-degree murders and aggravated sexual assaults, while Homolka pleaded guilty to manslaughter and received a 12-year sentence.
