Turtles All the Way Down

Turtles All the Way Down

The phrase "turtles all the way down" is used by philosophers and writers to depict the issue of infinite regression. The image comes from a myth in which a flat Earth sits on the back of a giant world turtle. That turtle stands on an even bigger turtle, which stands on another, forming an endless column of turtles. Since there is never a final foundation, the story shows how some explanations keep asking for another explanation.
