Oscar winners can't sell an Academy Award on the open market. Winners must sign an agreement that if they want to sell their statuette, they will first offer it to the Academy for 1 dollar. If they refuse that condition, they cannot keep the trophy. The rule blocks private sales and keeps control of the statuette with the Academy.
