Why Beans Cause Gas

Why Beans Cause Gas

Humans can't fully break down certain bean sugars called oligosaccharides. Due to the absence of the right enzyme, these sugars pass through the small intestine undigested. When passing through the large intestine, gut bacteria are able to then successfully process and consume them, producing excess gas in the process. The result is bloating and flatulence after a bean-heavy meal.
