On March 12, 2024, a pregnant woman arrived at Sainte-Croix Hospital in Quebec and found the main doors locked overnight, not realizing emergency access was through another entrance. Staff later heard noises outside and discovered that she had given birth on a bench. The health authority removed a private security guard for failing to help, and the hospital said it would improve door signage and remind staff to explain night access points.
