Dave Givens 186-Mile Commute

In April 2006, auto firm Midas named Cisco electrical engineer Dave Givens the winner of America's longest everyday commute after he logged a 372-mile roundtrip from his horse ranch near Yosemite to San Jose, a routine he had kept since 1989. He left at 4:30 a.m., drove 186 miles each way, and relied on XM radio, audiobooks, and more than 30 cups of coffee a day to endure the trip. Midas awarded him $10,000 in gas and maintenance, and Givens said the scenic ranch life made the grind worth it.
