In 2008, Italian performance artist Pippa Bacca set out to hitchhike from Milan toward the Middle East, wearing a wedding dress to symbolize peace and trust in the kindness of the local people. She vanished near Gebze, Turkey, during the journey. Police later found her body and detained a suspect who confessed to her murder. The case shocked Europe and turned her "Brides on Tour" project into a memorial.
