In 1400 in France, a king's bodyguard named Chevalier Maquer murdered Aubrey de Montdidier in the Forest of Bondy near Paris. Montdidier's greyhound later repeatedly attacked Maquer in public, raising suspicion, and the king ordered a judicial duel between the man and the dog in Paris.
