The Poisoning of Jane Stanford

The Poisoning of Jane Stanford

In 1905, Stanford University cofounder Jane Stanford collapsed and died in Honolulu after ingesting strychnine. Investigators determined she was the victim of deliberate poisoning rather than natural causes. At the time, university president David Starr Jordan faced suspicion that he tried to steer the inquiry away from murder. No one was ever charged, and the killer was never identified.
