New York's May 1st Moving Tradition

Around 100 years ago in New York City, about a quarter of all residents moved homes on May 1 at exactly 9 AM. The practice was tied to lease cycles and became known as "Moving Day." Over time, changing rental practices and landlord-tenant laws ended the tradition.
