Centenarian Prisoner Refuses Release

Centenarian Prisoner Refuses Release

Bill Wallace, born in 1881, was convicted of murder in 1926 and committed to a psychiatric facility rather than a prison. He spent nearly 60 years confined at Wolston Park Hospital in Queensland after being found unfit to stand trial. When a petition sought his release on his 100th birthday in 1981, Wallace refused, saying, "Don't be fucking silly, I live here." He died in 1989.
