The IRA Murder of Robert McCartney

In January 2005, a man named Robert McCartney was fatally stabbed during a fight in a Northern Ireland pub in Belfast by members of the IRA. When police investigated, all 71 patrons present claimed they were in the bar's bathroom at the time of the murder, inhaling smoke or long delays, and the tiny 4-by-3-foot cubicle became mockingly dubbed the "TARDIS" (bigger on the inside). Their collective alibi effectively stymied the investigation and impeded convictions.
