Cartel Murder of Sergio Vega

Cartel Murder of Sergio Vega

In June 2010, Sergio Vega, a Mexican singer known for his narcocorridos, which frequently glorified drug lords, publicly refuted online rumors that claimed his murder. The false report surfaced after rival cartels allegedly killed several musicians in the same genre. Just an hour after his denial, gunmen intercepted his red Cadillac on the highway near Los Mochis, Sinaloa, and shot him dead. Investigators believe that drug cartels, who had previously threatened Vega over his performances honoring cartel figures, killed him.
