In 2004, three of the most widespread computer worms-Netsky, Bagle, and Mydoom-were unleashed in a rivalry between their authors in what became known as the "virus war." Netsky's author, German teenager Sven Jaschan, filled his worm with insults directed at the Bagle and Mydoom writers, and some versions even deleted those rival infections from a system. While Mydoom became the fastest-spreading email worm in history and Bagle opened backdoors for spam, Jaschan was arrested later that year and received a suspended sentence, whereas the authors of Bagle and Mydoom were never identified.
