In the mid-1990s, a game developer company named DMA Design (later Rockstar North) was working on a racing game called Race'n'Chase. A glitch in the code caused police cars to behave unpredictably, recklessly ramming into players instead of following standard AI driving rules. Testers loved the chaotic bug so much that the developers rebuilt the entire concept around it, transforming the project into Grand Theft Auto, one of the most successful game franchises in history.
