Nebraska Woman Exploits Gas Pump Glitch

In 2022, a Nebraska woman named Dawn Thompson exploited a glitch in a gas station's card system to steal fuel over a period of six to seven months. By swiping her loyalty rewards card twice, she triggered the pump's demo mode, which allowed her to pump gasoline without charge. Before the scheme's discovery and her arrest, investigators estimated that Dawn Thompson stole about $28,000 worth of fuel.
