In 1999, Panasonic released an educational program called Secret Writer's Society for Windows and Macintosh computers to help children practice writing. The software included a built-in profanity filter, but a coding bug caused a critical flaw: if users double-clicked the "Read" button, the program would recite the entire banned word list aloud instead of their written text. Parents quickly complained after children heard the program speak strings of profanity, leading Panasonic to recall the software.
