Boeing 787 Needs 51-Day Reboots

In 2020, aviation authorities warned that Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft needed a full power cycle reboot at least once every 51 days. A software bug in the common core system caused a rounding error in the 32-bit counter for timekeeping, which led to stale data being fed into critical flight systems. The glitch could potentially cause the entire control system and the plane to crash if left unchecked. As of October 2025, the reboot-every-51-days directive remains in force.
