72 Virgins or 72 Raisins?

Some scholars argue that the famous promise of "72 virgins" in paradise may actually stem from a mistranslation. The Arabic word ??r, often rendered as "virgins," could instead mean "white raisins" or simply "white ones." Since the Quran never mentions the number 72 or specifies virgins, with that detail appearing only in later Hadith, the promise of sensual reward may have originally referred to something far more symbolic.
