In 2006, Reverend Al Sharpton demanded an apology from Cartoon Network over the Boondocks episode "Return of the King." The episode portrayed a fictional version of Martin Luther King Jr. using the term "nigga" to criticize modern Black culture, which Sharpton called offensive and disrespectful. Instead of apologizing, Cartoon Network responded by mocking Sharpton in a satirical radio broadcast during a later episode of the series.
