Bill Nye's Iconic Name Origin

Before becoming a household name, Bill Nye worked on the Seattle sketch comedy show Almost Live! in the 1980s. During one episode, the host mispronounced "gigawatts" as "jiggawatts," prompting Nye, an engineer at Boeing at the time, to correct him. The host jokingly fired back, "Who do you think you are, Bill Nye the Science Guy?"-a nickname that stuck and later became the title of his iconic PBS show Bill Nye the Science Guy (1993-1999).
