Movie Theater Overtime Pay Exemption

Employees working in U.S. movie theaters are exempt from federal overtime pay laws. The 'Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938' includes a clause that exempts employees "employed by an establishment which is a motion picture theater," a rule that is still in place today.
