In the 1980s, East Germany attempted to solve a significant coffee shortage by establishing coffee production infrastructure in Vietnam, its close ally. By the time they harvested any coffee, East Germany had ceased to exist. Today, Vietnam stands as the world's second-largest coffee producer.
