Robert De Niro's commitment to his roles is legendary. For "Raging Bull" (1980), he gained 60 pounds; for "The Godfather Part II" (1974), he lived in Sicily; and for "New York, New York" (1977), he learned to play the saxophone. In "Cape Fear" (1991), he reduced his body fat to 4%. For this role, he also paid a doctor $5,000 to grind down his teeth for a more menacing look and later spent $20,000 to restore them post-production.
