British Gunner Survives 18,000-Foot Fall

Flight Sergeant Nicholas Stephen Alkemade, a tail gunner with No.?115 Squadron of the Royal Air Force, survived a fall of 18,000?feet in March 1944 over Germany without a parachute. Fir trees and a soft snow cover broke his fall, resulting in only a sprained leg.
