Reef Stonefish

Reef Stonefish

This master of camouflage hides on ocean floors, resembling rocks or coral. Found in Indo-Pacific waters, it's one of the most venomous fish in the world and can survive out of water for up to 24 hours. Its 13 dorsal spines each contain venom sacs that can inject toxins when stepped on, causing extreme pain, paralysis, and potentially death without medical treatment. Some Indigenous Australian ceremonies even reenact deaths caused by this hidden killer.
