Duck-Billed Platypus

Duck-Billed Platypus

The male platypus, native to Australia, has venomous spurs on its hind legs. While not deadly, the sting can cause extreme, incapacitating pain that lasts for months. The venom triggers intense swelling and is so painful that it reportedly cannot be relieved with morphine. This defense mechanism is used primarily in male-to-male combat during the mating season.
