On March 10, 1945, during Operation Meetinghouse, the U.S. conducted the deadliest bombing raid in history, dropping incendiary bombs on Tokyo. The attack killed over 100,000 people and destroyed 267,171 buildings, surpassing the destruction caused by the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
