The Colfax Massacre (1873)

In 1873, a violent conflict broke out in Louisiana between Republicans and Democrats after both claimed victory in the gubernatorial election. Louisiana Democrats, aided by the White League paramilitary force, massacred more than 150 African Americans in Colfax.
