The Wilhelm Gustloff, which sank in 1945, is the deadliest shipwreck in history in terms of lives lost. Approximately 9,000 people perished aboard this German ocean liner after a Soviet submarine torpedoed it, sinking it in the frigid waters of the Baltic Sea.
