The tradition of adorning homes with Christmas lights outside began on Christmas Eve in 1914 in Denver, Colorado. D.D. Sturgeon, founder of Sturgeon Electric, sought to bring Christmas joy to his ailing son by wrapping pine trees with electric bulbs dipped in red and green paint.
