Victoria crowned pigeon
It is part of a genus of three unique, very large, ground-dwelling pigeons native to the New Guinea region. The bird may be easily recognized by the unique white tips on its crests and by its deep 'whooping' sounds made while calling.
Here is a video of one of these little dudes doing their dance. This is a great example of sexual selection. The ladies are not just interested in these males because they are beautiful to look at. Being this brightly colored leaves these males fairly vulnerable to predation! Bright coloration announces to every predator in the immediate area that you are here. There's no hiding. It's a big risk to show off a few dance routines. The fact that a male has made it to sexual maturity with these disadvantages shows a female they are carrying some excellent genes. The more flamboyant the display, the more you've overcome to survive to maturity. Sexual selection is an amazing driver for all sorts of specialization in males and it's all just to let the females know they are worth producing offspring with.
This is the Gerenuk antelope, also known as the 'giraffe gazelle'. It can reach higher branches and twigs better than other gazelles and antelopes by standing erect on its hind legs and elongating its neck; this helps it reach nearly 2 meters (6.6 ft) above the ground.
