Centipede Biology Forbids Hundred-Leg Bodies

Centipede Biology Forbids Hundred-Leg Bodies

Despite their name, centipedes can never have exactly 100 legs. Every species develops an odd number of leg pairs, while 100 legs would require the even number of 50 pairs. Known centipedes have between 15 and 191 leg pairs, with one pair attached to each leg-bearing body segment. Due to a genetic quirk, their biology prevents that literal count.
