In 2013, Patrick Stewart and American singer Sunny Ozell held a secret legal wedding ceremony at a Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles, with Ian McKellen officiating. A couple of weeks later, McKellen also led their public wedding ceremony in Nevada. Stewart revealed in 2020 that the Nevada ceremony alone would not have been legally binding because McKellen's ministry credentials were invalid in the state, making the restaurant ceremony their official marriage.
