In 2014, American scientist and mountaineer John All fell 70 feet into a crevasse while collecting snow and ice samples on Mount Himlung in Nepal's Himalayas. The impact broke 15 bones, including six vertebrae, severely dislocated his shoulder, and caused internal bleeding, but a narrow ledge stopped him from falling farther. Using one functional arm and an ice axe, All spent several hours clawing his way up the icy walls while filming parts of his escape. He eventually reached his camp, contacted other climbers, and was airlifted to a hospital.
