In 1946, the fourth atomic bomb ever detonated carried a photograph of American actress Rita Hayworth cut from the June issue of Esquire. Its crew stenciled "Gilda" above the image in two-inch black letters, linking the bomb to Hayworth's hit film before its test at Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands. Hayworth felt deeply offended, while Welles said he hoped their daughter could someday tell her own daughter that "grandmother's picture was on the last atom bomb ever to explode."
