In early 1996, Van Halen's involvement with the Twister soundtrack turned existing tensions with Sammy Hagar into open conflict. The band pressured Hagar to leave his pregnant wife in Hawaii, return to 5150 Studios, revise his lyrics, and extend "Humans Being" by another 90 seconds. Despite the rushed sessions, the song became Van Halen's 11th consecutive No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart. Following a heated June telephone argument with guitarist Eddie Van Halen, Hagar left the band just weeks after the film's premiere.
