Hooded Seal Pups Double Weight

Hooded seal milk can contain up to 75 percent fat, helping pups grow quickly in the extreme Arctic environment. Mothers nurse their pups for only two to four days, the shortest nursing period of any mammal. During that brief time, a pup can double its weight from about 20 kilograms to 40 kilograms.
