Wrangel Mammoths Outlived Giza Pyramids

The world's last generally accepted woolly mammoth population survived on remote Wrangel Island in the Arctic Ocean until roughly 2500 to 2000 BC, centuries after Egyptians built the Great Pyramid of Giza. When mammoths disappeared from mainland Eurasia and North America around 10,000 years ago, approximately 500 to 1,000 remained isolated on the island. This small population survived for another 6,000 years, sharing the planet with Bronze Age civilizations such as Sumer, Elam, and the Indus Valley civilization.
