The myth that goldfish remember events for only three seconds is false. In 2015, a ninth-grade student named Katie trained goldfish to navigate a maze and find food before testing them again after gaps of up to six months. After six months away, the fish found the food in an average of 12.82 seconds, compared with 410.05 seconds on their first training day. The results indicated that goldfish can retain spatial memories for at least six months.
