Germany's Deposit System Recovers 98%

Germany charges a 25-cent deposit on eligible single-use drink bottles and cans. Shoppers get a refund when they return the empty containers, with about 135,000 return locations across the country. According to recycling equipment company TOMRA, 98% of eligible containers come back, giving Germany the world's highest return rate for a deposit scheme.
