In February 2024, Billy Evans, the partner of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, incorporated a blood-testing startup called Haemanthus. He pitched a device that would scan blood, saliva, and urine for signs of disease, starting with pets before moving to humans. Its prototype reportedly resembled Theranos' machine, although Haemanthus said it used a different approach. NPR reported that Holmes advised Evans from prison, but Haemanthus denied that she had any involvement.
