Shi Jianqiao's Pardoned Warlord Assassination

In 1925, warlord Sun Chuanfang had Shi Jianqiao's father, a rival military officer, beheaded and his head displayed in public. Shi found Sun in Tianjin ten years later and shot him during a Buddhist prayer session. Her act of filial revenge drew widespread sympathy; after a lengthy court process, the Nationalist government pardoned her in 1936.
