Beijing's Olympic Protest Permits Denied

For the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Chinese authorities designated three parks where people could apply for permits to protest. They received 77 applications and approved none. Some applicants were detained or went missing after seeking permission; two elderly women were sentenced to a year of re-education through labor after applying.
