Schoolhouse Rock Began With Multiplication

Schoolhouse Rock! grew from David McCall's observation as an advertising executive that his young son struggled with multiplication tables but could remember rock song lyrics. McCall asked jazz musician Bob Dorough to put multiplication to music. Dorough wrote "Three Is a Magic Number," which became an animated short and helped launch the series on ABC.
