Laurentian Mountains Possibly Rivaled Himalayas

About 955 million years ago, the Laurentian Mountains rose across what is now Canada and may have rivaled today's Himalayas in height. Hundreds of millions of years of erosion wore the range almost down to its roots. Later, continental glaciers up to two kilometers thick further flattened the terrain, carved valleys, and created the lake-filled landscape now seen in Quebec's La Mauricie National Park.
