Clark Gable Challenged Segregated Facilities

While filming Gone with the Wind, American actor Clark Gable discovered that the studio facilities displayed separate "White" and "Colored" signs. According to film extra Lennie Bluett, Gable phoned director Victor Fleming and warned, "If you don't get those signs down, you won't get your Rhett Butler." The signs were removed, and Gable remained in the production.
