Michael Ripper Nearly Drowned On-Set

While filming The Pirates of Blood River, the stunt performers refused to wade through a lake, so the actors playing the pirates entered the water themselves. Christopher Lee later said Michael Ripper nearly drowned and that Lee survived only because he was 6 feet 4 inches tall. Oliver Reed developed an eye infection that required hospitalization.
